Pointing Your Domain To ContentActivator Using GoDaddy

This is a step-by-step guide to help you point your domain registered with GoDaddy.com to ContentActivator.

This tutorial assumes you've already purchased your domain with GoDaddy and are ready to point it to ContentActivator.

Pointing Your Domain To ContentActivator Using GoDaddy

Step 1

Go to www.godaddy.com and sign into your GoDaddy account. After you sign in, click on the "My Account" button on the top left

Step 2
In the DOMAINS section of your account, find your domain and click on the "Launch" button on the row of the domain you wish to point to your ContentActivator site.
Step 3
Click on the "DNS Zone File" Tab in the domain details screen
Step 4
In the "CName (Alias)" section, enter or change the "Points To" field for the address you want to use and set the "Points To" field to contentactivator.com. Completing this action will allow the www.yoursite.com address to be enabled.
Step 5
You also need to enable the sitename.com (without the www.) to be enabled. For the root domain, you'll need to do a 301 redirect to the WWW. address. Once this is set up, both sitename.com and www.sitename.com will direct to your site. To do this, go to your list of domains on GoDaddy's Control Panel and Click on the down arrow icon next to the domain name you wish to use with ContentActivator and click "Forward Domain".
Step 6
On the 'Forwarding and Masking' screen, select the "Update Forwarding" option. Set the forward to as "http://" and the text box will be www.yourdomain.com where "yourdomain.com" is the URL of the domain that you own. The redirect type will be "301 (Permanent)" and the forward settings will be "Forward Only". Check the box to "Update my name servers and DNS settings to support this change" and then click Done/Edit. After 20 or 30 minutes, http://yourdomain.com will begin forwarding to http://www.yourdomain.com and your visitors will see your new ContentActivator website on your own personal domain!
Step 7
Go back to the ContentActivator application and go to  Settings > Domains. In the "Use Your Own Domain" section, enter the domain you'd like to use. Then click "Set As Primary". Now pat yourself on the back and smile real big. You've now successfully set up your custom domain!
