Setting Up Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free and incredibly powerful tool from Google that allows you to track all aspects of your website. Although ContentActivator already provides you with powerful and easy to use analytics, Google Analytics provides you with even greater detail. ContentActivator has made it extremely easy for you to add your own Google Analytics profile to your site. The following steps will walk you through this process.

Setting Up Google Analytics

Step 1
Go to www.google.com/analytics and sign in with your Google Account.

Once you're logged in, you'll see a list of sites you may already have access to. To add your new site, click the "Admin" button on the top right of the screen.

This screen contains a list of all accounts, properties within those accounts and profiles within those properties. Click the "Accounts" dropdown and select "Create new account.".

In your new account, you will want to track a Website and select Universal Analytics within that site.

On the same screen, you will need to enter some details about your new site. 
  • Account Name - This is typically the name of your business or organization.
  • Site Name - This is something to help you identify your site.
  • Website URL - This should be the URL of your site (www.sitename.com). Keep in mind that if you plan to use your own domain name and not a subdomain given to you by ContentActivator (sitename.contentactivator.com), you will want to enter your own domain name here (www.sitename.com)
  • Industry Category - This is optional and up to you.
  • Reporting Time Zone - Enter the timezone where you reside.

Once you submit your details, Google Analytics will give you a tracking ID. You do not need to copy and paste the entire code that Google Analytics give you. You only need to copy the tracking ID.

Go back to the ContentActivator application and go to  Settings > Integrations. In the "Google Analytics ID" section, enter the tracking ID provided to you by Google Analytics.

Publish your site to the internet. Your site will now contain your Google Analytics tracking ID on all pages of your site. Google Analytics will immediately start collecting data. It may take a few hours to start seeing data in your Google Analytics account.
